Claire Francis
VN, BSc (hons) PG Diploma Companion Animal Behaviour Counsellor
Claire has been working with animals for the last 17 years. She started her career by helping out at her local Cat's Protection League before qualifying and working as Veterinary Nurse for 16 years. She has worked for many of the leading animal charities based in London, including Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, RSPCA & the Blue Cross.
Claire gained a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour & Conservation which led to working with a variety of wildlife such as Big Cats at the Cats Survival Trust in Herts., and Bears, Primates & Birds at the Thai Society for Conservation in Thailand, and for the Born Free Foundation in their Zoo Check department. Claire's most rewarding work with wildlife, was managing a China-based Bear Rescue Centre for Animals Asia, caring for 170 captive Bears along with rescued Primates and Wildcats. During her stay Claire featured on an Animal Planet documentary filmed at the Sanctuary, demonstrating the use of clicker training to teach a bear to present her chest for a stethoscope examination.
Claire has a great interest in all animals and has a Pointer/Labrador cross breed called Iris who lives along side 5 cats who she adopted from the Celia Hammond Trust after fostering a mother, father and 3 kittens.
Claire has also completed a Post Graduate diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling at Southampton University. When time allows she hopes to develop her studies further to MSc or PHD level. Claire keeps up to date with developments in animal behaviour science by regularly attending conferences and seminars.
